There are a variety of shapes to consider for an outdoor pool. Different shapes are better for certain landscapes or activities. You should choose the shape that best fits your yard and property and lifestyle, such as:
A custom design is chosen when a standard shape does not fit the area due to size and parameters, or when a specific look is desired. They can also work with landscape restraints (hills, etc.) and can be designed to fit the size and shape or feel of the house and existing landscape. Custom designs also offer a more natural look and allow for other features like waterfalls to blend in with surroundings.
Custom designs are not ideal for those looking to swim laps or play basketball or other games in the pool. They are also more difficult to cover, both in summer and winter.

Grecian shape is chosen when there are cut corners on the house or existing deck and patio. It also pairs well with traditional or classic architectural styles. The cut corners of the pool allow it to be placed on an angle to better fit the desired space. The Grecian shape is easily covered by a solar cover but it can difficult to use an automatic cover with the shape.

A kidney shape is chosen when the pool needs to fit around existing patios or in a yard that is not rectangular. They can also be nestled around a corner of the house or patio.
Kidney shaped pools are not ideal for those looking to swim laps. They are also more difficult to cover, both in summer and winter.

An L-Shaped pool is chosen when the site dictates that the pool needs to wrap a corner or other house projection, or when a specific look is desired. They also offer the ability to have a diving area and a play area.
L-Shaped pools are ideal for those looking to use the pool for multiple activities. The shape allows for separated shallow and deep ends as well as for lap swimming. They can be covered with a solar blanket but are also more difficult and expensive to cover with an automatic cover.

This time frame can change depending on what elements are included with the project (ex: built-in grill, patio, etc.) as well as finishing materials.
