This project posed several challenges for our team. The 1st challenge was that the site has a lot of elevation change to it- depending upon where you are up to 50′. The second challenge was access to the site to build the project.
When I 1st met with the client they were considering a location on the site that while the elevation change was less (5-6′ across the area) and the build would be easier the Pool Area would be remote from the rest of the homes entertaining space. Ultimately we chose a location that meshed well with the existing walkout basement and patio even though the grade change was more extreme and the difficulty of the build was greater. The end result an outdoor entertaining space that flows well from the existing patio and offers a great scenery from the home. We used Concrete Pavers that compliment the existing patio. We wanted to define the pool area seperate from the existing patio and also had to provide a transition between the materials so we dropped the pool down to make a clean break. This also helped with the elevation change on the site.
