This property owner contacted us and wanted to add an outdoor entertainment space to their home that included a pool, a hot tub, water features, and a fire feature. It was very important for the new space to feel like it was always there - not like it had been added. The space included an upper stone patio with a retaining wall and steps that separated the patio from a lower lawn space which included a drainage swale that served the whole back yard. The west side of the site had several mature Pine trees and sloped up hill. We ended up removing several of the trees to both get sun to the pool deck and also to allow us to raise the elevation of the pool area so that we could get surface water to flow around the pool to the west. By raising the grade we were able to make the Pool area an extension of the upper patio and it also allowed us to tuck the Hot Tub in adjacent the upper patio so that it can be accessed form both the upper patio and the pool deck. We used a concrete paver on the Pool Deck that provided continuity with the upper patio to tie the spaces together. We created a Raised Wall and patio on the opposite side of the pool to allow for waterfalls to be a focal point from the home and the upper patio. We used Lannon Stone for the raised wall to mirror the wall between the upper patio and the pool deck. The upper patio also includes a gas Fire Pit. The pool includes a generous sunshelf for entertaining.
